The Birth Of Operetta

Operetta is a musical genre that, like any art form, is associated with the developmental stage of the culture in which it appeared. Every musical genre is an integral part of the era in which it was created. In the beginnings of the genesis of operetta, before the industrial revolution, the socio-economic situation of the people was at a very low level, industry was in its infancy while the art of opera was highly developed. The difficulties of life and survival that people faced in everyday life could not but be expressed through the art of music. The tragedy of life was presented on stage.

After the Industrial Revolution the human condition improved. The years ahead now looked brighter than in the past and people viewed the future with greater optimism. The 19th century was characterized by more romance and bigger dreams. People began to believe that the impossible was now possible as they saw their lives get better day by day. This change was also expressed through the art of music as the need for comedy and for exorcism of the difficulties of the past became more intense through their ridicule. Rapid scientific and technological progress has helped people replace crying with laughter and led to the birth of operetta. It is characteristic that the spectator of the specific musical genre did not need to have the corresponding education with that of the art of opera.
